Miami Highlights: Rubell, de la Cruz, Margulies
I hope you've enjoyed our coverage of the Miami fairs this past week. It was a blast documenting the events and I like sharing the experience with our readers. Today will be the last day we mention Miami for a while (don't hold me to that), and I'll end the fun by posting photos from the three collections I visited, Rubell, de la Cruz, and Margulies. Until next year!!! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: NADA and SEVEN
Today I'm wrapping up the art fairs with one final post including NADA and Seven. These are the last two fairs that I had a chance to visit while in Miami last week (still recovering, by the way). I wish I had more time and more feet, because I would have attempted more! That doesn't mean that this is the end of my adventures while there. Tomorrow I'll be ending the photo-extraveganza with pictures from the Rubell, de la Cruz, and Margulies collections. So don't go away yet! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: Art Miami / Context and Untitled
I made it to Art Miami and Art Context on opening night. It was jammed...There was a lot of talk about the Banksy pieces which were apparently taken from "the streets" of the Middle East and brought here for exhibit and sale. However you feel about the removal and placement, I think most people will agree that the pieces didn't seem to play well in this context. And, for Banksy, isn't context what it's all about? But I digress...

Miami Highlights: Miami Project and Pulse
Today let's tackle Pulse and Miami Project. The latter of which is a brand new fair located in Wynwood. It sported an impressive roster and a nice tent, I might add. But I'll let the photographs speak for themselves. Tomorrow, Art Miami/Context and Untitled (yet another new fair). - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: Basel and Aqua
I'm back from a crazy week in Miami and I have too many pictures for just one post...Or two or three for that matter. I figure the best way to tackle this is to post highlights from different fairs and collections each day of this week. To kick things off I thought it would be fun to start with two extremes, Basel and Aqua (the latter of which was voted by our readers as "The Best Miami Fair for Emerging Art" and recently purchased by Art Miami LLC).

In the Studio: Process of a Painting with Karen Ann Myers
Karen Ann Myers’ (NAP #100) series of scantily clad, young females rest on their beds, but seem unrested and uneasy. They look to the viewer in a confrontational and semi-seductive manner, as if being photographed or watched voyeuristically—thus positioning the viewer in an awkward role as the voyeur getting a glimpse into or playing an active role in the intimate space of these young women.

Momentary Brightness with Carolyn Swiszcz
Think of American Beauty’s famous plastic bag scene.
Or the morning you wake up feeling rested and recovered after a week of being sick.
Or that moment in your car when you look up to catch a streaky sunset in your rearview mirror.
These are the moments when you rub your eyes and think that you can’t possibly be seeing quite so brightly, clearly or keenly, and that the world can’t possibly be this strikingly beautiful, sharp, and moving.

Museum Admission: Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum
There are world-class museums in Michigan and in this economy, some of them have had trouble keeping their doors open. Luckily, the threat of shutterings has started to disappear, and in the case of Michigan State University’s Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, serious cash is being dropped to ensure that Michigan remains host to some of the very best in art and culture. This $45 million museum ($28 million donated by the Broads) was dedicated November 10th to an art star-studded ceremony, and the attendance since then has continued to grow.

Cy Twombly: The Last Paintings
Cy Twombly
The Last Paintings
Gagosian Gallery, November 1 – December 22, 2012
Explaining Twombly’s work is a little like trying to explain Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. There is a stated formula and an equation that we are all readily familiar with but unless you can decode the terms of the equation you are lost. Similarly we decode Twombly’s brush because it is his tool. For Twombly his equation was that paint was like language: it described the world rather than simply made pictures of it. - Michael Klein, New York Contributor

Unsolved Collections: The Paintings of Sarah Awad’s Transference and Speculation
Sarah Awad’s orange and white parachute beams broadly like sunshine across the confines of its modest canvas. Sharing the stage with a blue alligator head, a shiny space shuttle and a set of turquoise artillery, bold objects dominate the artist’s new show Transference and Speculation at Seattle’s James Harris Gallery.
