Taking A New Perspective: Leah Haney at Tiny Park
Welcome to the future...and it's the mid-1980's. Leah Haney revels in it, from the jewel-toned color palette to Art Deco revivalism to cyberpunk. In her hands, these vintage ingredients manifest as frozen explosions of multiple perspectives and cosmic architecture, in her appropriately titled solo exhibition Divergent Space (on view through January 5) at Austin's Tiny Park. They're anything but dated. — Brian Fee (Austin contributor)

Spotlight: This Is Your Brain on Grant Miller
Technology creeps me out. And I realize this is a first world problem, but I find myself avoiding gadgets and the internet whenever possible. I don’t tweet, I don’t chat on Facebook, my iPod was born in 2007 and I’m audacious enough (apparently) to forego the tablet for real books. I just recently took the smart phone plunge and this was only because it became abundantly clear that, by today’s social standards, it is considered rude to let even a few minutes pass by before responding to an email. Whilst drafting the pros and cons list that eventually led me to acquiring my fancy phone I found myself wondering if I’m the only one who feels the need to heavily evaluate technology before welcoming it into my life.

New American Paintings #103 Sneak Peek
Within the next few weeks the Pacific Coast issue of New American Paintings, #103, will be received by subscribers and newsstands across the country. Juror, Monica Ramirez-Montagut, Senior Curator at the San Jose Museum of Art, carefully selected the artists you see below. In her essay, Monica notes, "The selection for New American Paintings makes evident the vitality and vibrancy of paintings, and the impossibility of narrowing down the practice to one trend or style. Painting continues to be a sublime, visceral, fully fleshed, colorful, and witty facilitator of self-expression."

Ken Gonzales-Day at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles
Ken Gonzales-Day’s recent show, “Profiled | Hang Trees | Portraits,” at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is deeply rich and intellectually challenging. A well-established artist and researcher, Gonzales-Day challenges his viewers and the way in which we as a country remember.
