Museum Admission: “Vitality & Verve” and Pow! Wow! Long Beach

Pow! Wow! Long Beach, a contemporary art festival, recently took over Long Beach, California — both in and off the streets. Pow! Wow!’s distinct gatherings take place internationally throughout the year with events expanding to Taiwan, Israel, Jamaica, Washington D.C., Singapore, Germany, and Guam — to name a few.

Founded by Jasper Wong, the festival’s inception and inaugural Pow! Wow! gathering began as a week long festival in Hawai’i. During these events, muralists take over the city, where they can be seen working on the murals from start to finish throughout the week. Additionally in July, the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) featured an accompanying exhibit Vitality & Verve in the Third Dimension. - Ellen C. Caldwell, Los Angeles Contributor

Gallerist at Home: Joshua Liner

Just four years ago, Joshua Liner Gallery opened its doors in New York’s Chelsea District.  After Superstorm Sandy hit Chelsea’s gallery row particularly hard, I am pleased to report that owner and director Joshua Liner opened their current show Tiffany Bozic's "Transformation” only a week behind schedule. - Ellen C. Pacific Coast Issue #97 Sneak Peak!

The 2011 Pacific Coast Issue, #97, is now hitting newsstands across the US. It is expected to ship to subscribers in the next 1 to 2 weeks, so keep an eye out. The juror for this much-anticipated issue was Anne Ellegood, Senior Curator, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA.

In her essay, Ellegood notes that, "Painting is a surface for imagination. This is abundantly evident in the submissions I reviewed for this edition of New American Paintings. While the works presented in the following pages are notably eclectic, one striking correspondence among the artists is their belief that painting can offer us insights into our world..." -- View a list of all featured artists and see a few more sneak peaks after the jump!
