Top Five 2014 Exhibitions (Experiences) from Associate Publisher: Andrew Katz
Everyone's doing it, right? Over the next few weeks, some of the NAP/Blog contributors will share their favorite shows of 2015. First up, Associate Publisher, Andrew Katz...Enjoy!
I was able to travel a bit this year, so fortunately I could expand my art viewing to a few other cities. I categorized my selections to make things a little more interesting. Don't worry, Boston, you are still well represented! So many shows to consider, and almost impossible to narrow things down, so this year I focused on exhibitions that gave me a memorable overall experience.
If you saw any of these shows, I know you were equally as impressed. And if you didn't, I encourage you to look into the artists a little more. You'll like what you see. - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Whitney Biennial 2014
Finally, from my trip to NYC this weekend, my visit to the Whitney. I'm no critic, that is for sure. I have opinions but I'm not in a position to tell you what's good and what's bad. I can only show you what I liked, and highlight some pieces for you in case you can't make it. However, I will say that I found the Biennial a bit overcrowded with work. There was just too much. I think less is more, but look at some of the installation shots and see if you agree. Oh, and it was almost 80 degrees on the 4th floor, and I have evidence, so if you come across a shot of a thermostat, that wasn't a work of art. - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

The Armory Show 2014
Back from New York and combing through hundreds of pictures. If you didn't make it to the Armory Show this year, or if you're looking for a refresher, check out my pics! Obviously, not everything, but things that caught my eye while browsing the fair. The images are on our Flickr page.
In the next few days I'll post some images from my trip over to the Volta Fair and Whitney Biennial.

Highlights from the 2013 VOLTA Show
I hope you liked the pics I posted yesterday from the Armory Show. Today I'm sharing photos from The Volta Show. It's hard to choose which images to post, but I chose the following to give you a feel for the fair (in case you couldn't make it) and to feature the stand-out booths and works. The venue was great...A bit cramped at times, especially on the first floor, but the building was beautiful and the location was awesome. Already looking forward to next year! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Highlights from the 2013 Armory Show
Another year, another Armory Show. Overall a good year for painting! However, the fair was a little weird this time around with a clear shortage of "Blue Chip" galleries (You'll find them at Frieze later in the year), but maybe that's a good thing. More room for everyone else...Below are some highlights (in my humble opinion) from the fair. Tomorrow I'll be posting pictures from VOLTA. Enjoy! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Visiting the Neighbors in the South End
It's not that I don't get out much. It's not that I don't visit our friends and neighbors around our office in Boston. But, it's rare that I'm able to do so AND I happen to have my camera at work. So here we are again, regretfully months after my last post highlighting some excellent exhibitions that are within a stone's throw. There are too many to document, so I stuck with painting exhibits this time around.

Miami Highlights: Rubell, de la Cruz, Margulies
I hope you've enjoyed our coverage of the Miami fairs this past week. It was a blast documenting the events and I like sharing the experience with our readers. Today will be the last day we mention Miami for a while (don't hold me to that), and I'll end the fun by posting photos from the three collections I visited, Rubell, de la Cruz, and Margulies. Until next year!!! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher

Miami Highlights: NADA and SEVEN
Today I'm wrapping up the art fairs with one final post including NADA and Seven. These are the last two fairs that I had a chance to visit while in Miami last week (still recovering, by the way). I wish I had more time and more feet, because I would have attempted more! That doesn't mean that this is the end of my adventures while there. Tomorrow I'll be ending the photo-extraveganza with pictures from the Rubell, de la Cruz, and Margulies collections. So don't go away yet! - Andrew Katz, Associate Publisher
