Since its inception in 1993, more than three thousand artists have been featured in New American Paintings. For most, the publication provided their first serious exposure to an international audience of art world professionals and enthusiasts.

Our artist index showcases the history of New American Paintings, and in doing so houses a bewildering range of media, subject matter, and aesthetic viewpoints. Over the years, a number of artists first featured in New American Paintings early in their careers have gone on to achieve substantial critical and commercial success. Among them are: James Siena, Brian Calvin, Alexis Rockman, Wendy White, Trenton Doyle Hancock, William Cordova, Matthew Day Jackson, and Allison Schulnik.
