Artist Statement

My work is diaristic and reactive, reflecting on my life lived in the rural Midwest, New York City, and in the cybersphere as a first-generation Palestinian American. My daily creative practice acts as a mode of self therapy, where tactile challenges and channeled chromaesthesia—experiments in dimension and color influenced by music—are essential to my process, like prescribed escapism sans the drugs of my youth. Experimenting freely with mediums, I encourage unexpected results and mutations in compositional form to bloom in the studio. This results in conceptually abstracted paintings and prints, intricate layered paper cut-outs, sculptures, drawings, and animations. I am currently very motivated by a recent series of geometric relief paintings that tease out themes of generational trauma and symbolic self-transformation.
