Artist Statement
My work is formal and idiosyncratic. I identify simple, clear forms
that simultaneously embody assertiveness and vulnerability. I
continually think about sculpture while I paint, and the masses
I describe are both flat and dimensional. The process involves
taping and pouring, and it is controlled and intuitive. I work the
canvas horizontally on the floor as much as on the wall, because
I am invested in paint and am obsessive about how it physically
settles on the picture plane. While I am a bit of a formalist, I
embrace trial-and-error and have an affinity for what’s peculiar,
animating inanimate form.
