I am drawn to the suggestive nature of architectural order; a false-front arrangement of scaled correctness. I render its outer, often banal, aspects with the true intent of extracting the poetry of a cherished and lively fantasy protected within. The exterior of pure reason serves as an ideal backdrop for my contrasting, loose, and unreasoned layers of paint and feeling.
By re-creating various landmarks visited along sample journeys of my own, I endure long exposure to the once-held transformative power found in settings reminiscent of the Grande Tour. Places initially glimpsed in haste, captured digitally in a blur, are studied and developed through several steps. By dragging out the process, with little to no computer screen editing, I aim to restore a tactile experience rich in happy accidents that celebrates a hands-on, labor-filled authenticity.
