My work is about the many things that keep me up at night. I hide my secret thoughts in the thin pastel layers of figurative night scenes, assembling magic realist scenarios around the dichotomy of community and isolation. Interpretations of unfinished or captivating conversations, social media use, dating experiences, and existentialism, are always portrayed with consideration for the young adults on whom I focus. I think about their essence and how to capture their beauty, strength, and vulnerability by placing them in silly narratives.

Ever since I moved to the United States from Germany at 14, I never wanted others to feel as invisible as I felt. With my pieces I let people emerge from the shadows of darkness in a magical glow and be seen, albeit in an unusual and strange way, somewhere on the spectrum between realism and surrealism. I weave light pastel strokes into each other until the figures radiate from within as much as from an external light source, their beauty filling the loneliness of night.
