Artist Statement
Investigating ideologies, and morphing historical and nationalist ideas, my work explores the physical and mental experience of being in transition. While questioning the constant “pursuits of happiness” or the desires for a better future, the work is a reaction to notions of emigration based on necessity. The repetitive representation of a single object or figure conveys shifting states of escape/confinement in collective/individual territories. The use of multiples describes ideas of labor in a timeless state, replacing the meaning of identity with a sense of discomfort. Symbols, gestures, monuments, and family documentations portray a void of an environment, depicting a deceptive, liminal space.
