Artist Statement

Described as visual dream stories, Kathleen's paintings are laced with symbolism and juxtapositions that take the viewer to distant lands in the imagination. Often called 'Magical Realism', her imagery draws the viewer in through the lens of realism and the familiar, then tickles their subconscious with unexpected illusions and mystery. These contradictory worlds of sensibility and myth weave a fantastical tapestry of wonder and possibilities -- a sort of 'magical thinking.' Storytelling, nature, and the female figure are central to Kathleen's work. These powerful components, knitted together with metaphors and symbology, express connection, purpose, strength, grace, and innate beauty.
