Having spent time on the water while growing up, I find
parallels between the ocean and the great expanses of land
and sky here in New Mexico. My inspiration comes from the
colors, rhythms, and patterns I see in the landscape, and from
the ocean landscapes of my memories—the sea, the sky, and the
distant horizon.
My recent series Rise/Set explores light and color in the
transitional moments of dawn and dusk. These paintings
present fields of brushstrokes that fill the canvas with subtly
shifting colors. Working within a structure of repetition and the
grid, I create rhythmic patterns that I hope will invite quiet
contemplation of the painting surface.
