Artist Statement

Hadeel Boufarhat is a Los Angeles based artist whose multidisciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture, and drawing. Growing up moving between the Matn District in Lebanon and the San Francisco Bay Area in California, their work is a reaction to their childhood within these two worlds. Their paintings often combine repeated symbols and references specific to both Lebanese and Queer cultures, creating layers of internal coding. Hadeel is inspired by unplucked eyebrows, Ziad Rahbani, transsexuals, and “The Second Coming” by William Butler Yeats.
