Artist Statement

Edward Emery is a San Francisco-based painter whose work focuses on people and the scenery of everyday life in the United States. Growing up he was heavily influenced by San Francisco’s vibrant history of street art and underground comics; thus, his portraits frequently combine whimsy and storytelling with a style that oscillates between figurative realism and caricature. For himself, Emery’s work serves as a form of visual recordkeeping; it documents the various spaces in his life and the multitude of characters that inhabit them.
