Artist Statement
This recent painting series serves as a common ground for distressed and sublime spaces at the mercy of human encroachment. One of the greatest human experiences that is most taken for granted is the treatment of space, both culturally and physically. Spaces are transformed by those who inhabit them, leaving us with the physical remains of an ongoing struggle for power. It is for this reason that the American landscape today has been so abused. Creating images allows me to become, simultaneously, the architect, landscaper, and the steward of nature.
