NortheastArtist Statement
The digital world has revolutionized the way images are created. The definition of photography has been challenged as more and more artists pursue methods to reinterpret and manipulate source materials. Veracity is no longer taken for granted.
In my newest series I explore this condition through fictionalized portraits of women. Images of women and children are stitched together to create a hybrid pictorial that echoes the ambiguous status of women in today's society.
By combining photographs and illustrations the viewer is afforded an amalgam of today's feminine identity where children are over-sexualized and youth-culture reigns.
These composite images invite the viewer to perceive many roles at once. While addressing the complexity of today's female self they likewise invite the observer to process and examine this new model, continuing art's long tradition of shifting universal perceptions and prevailing standards.
