André Comtois is a Los Angeles-based painter whose work begins with observation, either on location or through videos, but moves fluidly between looking and constructing. He’s interested in how the act of painting from life becomes a form of abstraction, and how structures outside of observation can shape what’s seen. His images balance immediacy and intention, producing something more invented than found.
