Wirth Motor Company

Written by Andrew Katz Katz

Article hero image
Innovative artists find ways to interact with their fans and come up with witty ways to attract new ones, and Wirth has done that with “Worth Motor Company.” WMC is a clever project, aimed at car lovers that want to artistically capture their treasured vehicles, whether, “New or Old. Fast or Slow. Polished or Demolished. Good or Bad.” Visitors of the site can submit an image and description of a vehicle, and even request to include special items that might make the resulting original painting even more tear-jerking for the current or former holder of the title.          Click on thumbnails above to make images larger. Now, we understand that doing a commission is not a brand new invention, but Wirth does it in a fun way, and the paintings are extremely charming. The site is also thoughtfully crafted. For example, paintings that do not get purchased (submitting a vehicle is risk-free!) end up in the “Used Lot” for other collectors to snatch them up. If you’re a car lover or you know one, WMC is a unique and inexpensive way to compliment collections of paintings or car memorabilia. Do you know of any artists that create opportunities for collectors to directly be a part of their creative process? His studio and workshop are currently located in the flat lands of the northern Iowa where he lives with his wife and children. He will be featured in Midwest issue of New American Paintings, #95, due on newsstands later this month.
