For more than thirty years, New American Paintings has pursued a clear mission: to provide artists with meaningful opportunities to present their work to a wider audience. In an art world often focused on a narrow range of voices, we believe there is a vast landscape of talent still waiting to be discovered. Today, we’re proud to introduce our new website, the result of three years of development. The new newamericanpaintings.com serves both as an archive of the publication’s history and as a foundation for our growing digital future.
Artists have always been at the center of New American Paintings, and this site reflects that commitment. It stands as a tribute to the thousands of artists we’ve had the privilege to work with over the years. Since our founding, more than 6,000 artists have been featured in the publication, and each now has a dedicated page on the site. For the first time, alumni can manage their own profiles—updating biographical information and, importantly, adding new work whenever they choose—allowing them to keep our audience engaged with their evolving practice.
We’re also excited to introduce two major new features. The first is our Digital Magazine. Rather than simply replicating the print edition online, we’ve created a more immersive and dynamic reading experience. To celebrate its launch, two upcoming issues, #182 and #183, will be made available for free. The second new feature is Nova, a new series of artist competitions published bimonthly. Nova will allow us to present more exceptional artists to our readers every year and, best of all, will be free.
The number of people who contributed to bringing this site to life is truly remarkable, and I’m deeply grateful for the many friends and colleagues who helped in countless ways. I want to begin by thanking my wife, Rebecca Rivers, whose unwavering support carried me through the many ups and downs of this demanding project. I’m also grateful to my brother, Mark Zevitas, for his financial expertise, and to my parents, John and Dini Zevitas, whose support made this endeavor possible. I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such talented and dedicated colleagues—Liz Morlock and Alexandra Simpson were instrumental throughout, offering invaluable insight and commitment at every stage. My thanks as well to Sandy Weil and Rich Marcus for their steady support over the years. Finally, I’d like to recognize the team at Therefore Interactive for their professionalism and hard work, especially Luke Bowler for his strategic vision, Pierre Marcel for his exceptional technical architecture, Giancarlo Pico for expertly managing a complex process, and Bruno Silva for creating a design I’m truly proud of.
I hope that you will have time to dive in and explore the site, and keep in mind, this is just the beginning. In the coming months, we will be releasing new features that will benefit artists and our readership, alike.
Thank you for your support!
