Stephanie Fox Knappe is the Sanders Sosland Senior Curator of Global Modern and Contemporary Art and Head of the American Art department at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. She holds a doctoral degree with honors in art history from the University of Kansas where she taught several courses. She has published articles and essays on a variety of topics from self-taught artists to the impact of community-authored object labels in museums, contributed to multiple exhibition and collection catalogues, and most recently wrote on Khalif Tahir Thompson for the artist’s first monograph. In addition to curating numerous exhibitions, including four tied to the museum’s “KC Art Now” initiative celebrating local artists, she has served as a juror many times. These include for the Heartland Art Guild Miniature Competition, the Symphony in the Flint Hills Fine Art Exhibition, the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society Art Show, the Thomas Hart Benton Art Exhibition and Competition, and the San Antonio Art League and Museum Annual Exhibition and Artist of the Year, as well as for The Studios Inc Residency and the Charlotte Street Visual Artist Awards in Kansas City. Fox Knappe also sits on the advisory committee for FORUM: art and critical conversations, a bi-monthly magazine published by the Kansas City Artists Coalition.
