Images and words are miraculous bits of the world that point to
other, faraway bits. My work is driven by a fascination with this
magical interaction. My paintings and drawings play with point of
view, language, illusion, and flatness to complicate and clarify the
thresholds of content and form, depth, and surface. Recently, I’ve
been making paintings and drawings that take literally the idea
that a picture is a statement. These works pose the questions: If a
picture is a statement, can this statement be true or false? Can it
be a promise? Can it be a lie?
