My work is an ongoing exploration of the photographic image
and its ability to evoke memory, emotion, and association. Using
instant film, digital photography, and preexisting photographic
material, I create works of collage that alter the original intention
of the source material by shifting focus away from the intended
subject and onto the portions of the image that form the nonspaces
of the surrounding background. I juxtapose and weave
together these isolated fragments of the body, of domestic and
natural environments, and of abstracted periphery, to form
emotive and abstract narratives that evoke each viewer’s unique
memories and experiences.
I am interested in harnessing the malleability of the photographic
image to investigate the relationship between subject and
surrounding as visualized in the merging of body and landscape.
