Artist Statement

Senem Oezdogan’s paintings and sculptures investigate how surface becomes structure. Working across painting, fiber, and sculpture, she develops forms that oscillate between abstraction and biological suggestion. Membranes, skeletal frameworks, and layered surfaces become sites where tension accumulates, containment falters, and transformation begins.

Her work is rooted in process. Through repeated acts of wrapping, knotting, painting, and layering, each work records its own construction, allowing labor to remain visible as an active force rather than something concealed. Rather than treating surface as a site of representation, she approaches it as a structure under tension. Her works collapse the distinction between image and structure, creating forms that appear simultaneously resilient and precarious, suspended between containment and release.
