Artist Statement
I begin each painting with an image. From there, each move is a
reaction to the previous layer, which allows the painting to emerge
rather than remain faithful to the source. It is a suggestion of
place, both emotionally and physically, rather than a specific
description. My process is fast, intuitive, and physical; there is no
margin for error in this direct approach. Color is a very important
part of the work, not only for its emotive powers, but also its
ability to shift perceptions of reality. I create the work to be many
things all at once.
