Adopting the role of observer, in my new paintings I document the evolving personalities of two siblings and the complexities inherent in their relationship. Naomie and Naima explores the life and exchanges of my friend’s children as they take steps forward to face the challenges and struggles of growing up. Lyrical lines capture the subtlety of a gesture, a gaze, or the holding of a shared object, to reveal each girl’s unique spirit and persona as well as the duality intrinsic to the sister–sister bond.
