I live and work in Milwaukee. I’m primarily a painter, but I’ve also been involved with film, performance, sculpture, and installation. Collecting is part of my practice. When I’m making things, I draw on an evolving archive of images. I’m also interested in collecting painting techniques. I look for an unexpected combination between the materiality of a formal approach and the illusory quality of an image. My work has recently included structures of a static locale or cultural form, complicated through direct contact with multiple human experiences. My work has included images of public bulletin boards, commercial airplanes, museum storage vaults, and tourist attractions, as well as less concrete structures, such as music, jokes, or dance. I’m interested in assembling the way we collectively experience these structures by unifying a multitude of isolated, flawed glimpses.
