Artist Statement
In my recent work, I’ve been interested in rendering sensuous,
possibly troublesome markings, as in the tracing of the creases in
the palm of a hand or scratches left behind on the surface of the
skin. Sometimes these impressions are fleeting, like the serenity
etched into an absurd haircut, while others are more permanent,
like the prismatic surface of a meteorite that’s crashed through
my studio window. The sensual or disruptive nature of these acts
can provide a therapeutic touch or a crushing blow. Ultimately, I
want my paintings to alleviate or make obvious my insecurities
and anxieties through humor and the pleasures of the paint’s
surface.
