Cities are artifacts. They are the physical expression of systems
beyond our individual control. Under these conditions, it can
be difficult to pinpoint the forces acting on us and to see how
they shift our intentions. In my work, I consider how the built
environment sets the terms for our movements and interactions,
how it reflects what we as a society think is possible. When we
feel that there is no room for our impulses, we fall out of step with
the anticipated functions of the landscape. We become aware of
our surroundings. It can be a transformative moment.
