Artist Statement
My paintings depict the natural organic world in relationship to
the human architectonic influence.
I have used this group of paintings, Flotsam and Jetsam, to create
a multifaceted installation. The paintings, each with its individual
combination of colors and lines, draw on a different spatial
feeling, from weighted security to an unknown weightlessness.
As a group, the paintings alter the viewer’s perception of space
by providing the illusion of a continuous horizon line that expands
beyond the confines of the architectural environment. These
paintings reflect my daily visual experience of the angular,
human-created environment juxtaposed with nature’s soft-edge
expansiveness. As a multimedia artist, I explore these themes
in installations and live performances that include digital media
and video projection.
