I make fictionalized landscapes that draw on manmade forms and
natural elements—construction sites, rock formations, cornfield
rows, power lines, roads, asphalt lots, dirt, sand, concrete. The
industrial materials I use refer to the raw natural resources
used in construction. Formally, I use texture, shape, line, and
contrast to conduct a conversation with abstract expressionism
and minimalism. I place the materials at the forefront at all
times; my intention is to draw attention to the importance of the
framework that our world operates on, and to use those materials
to reference social and environmental issues while also bringing
to mind ideas about my heritage as an artist and as the son of a
construction worker.
