In the paintings, I reflect on my experience of mediated environments. I travel through natural spaces exploring how
the act of viewing landscape influences a physical construction
of the world. I seek to come to terms with the naturalized
elements that facilitate an American landscape mythology. The images are from specific places, but resist location when the painted surface becomes the primary site of encounter. The fiction of the images signifies that these are not real places, but translations of my experience embedded in a history of development, intervention, and use. I hope to relocate the viewer’s perception of the landscape to a consideration of the unseen
as well as the seen.
