All my recent work is centered on drawing with Sumi ink using
a wooden tool that I carve to get a sharp point. For me, this is
where the magic happens. I keep a clear mind and move the stick
around until a figure or story appears; it’s automatic. This method
lets me tap into the subconscious without forcing a certain
story or dialogue. It feels like I’m stumbling around in the dark
looking for a light switch. Some turn into oil paintings and others
Sumi/charcoal drawings on canvas. Both styles offer their own
form of meditation or just plain ol’ checking out.
