Artist Statement
Andrew Polk expresses universal ideas through the use of abstraction. His images resonate with primordial instincts that interact with the viewer's subconscious memory. Without depicting recognizable things, he uses color, energy and sheer physicality to reflect the beauty, horror and mystery of nature.
He has exhibited throughout the United States, as well as, internationally in Australia, India, China, New Zealand, Slovakia, and Bulgaria.
Andrew Polk joined the faculty of The University of Arizona in 1984, where he served as the Director of the School of Art from 1994 through 2001. As a Full Professor, he currently teaches printmaking, painting, and drawing courses.
