My work operates between the real and the imaginary; a pictorial space that threatens to collapse into itself at any moment. At times it recalls cinematic imagery and can be seen as the description of a dream or a compact film narrative. Characters recur and drift between paintings; they become iconic; they antagonize and argue for presence, as if taking part in a dysfunctional television production. The objects I paint often have a perverse physicality—part food, part figure. I contrast different styles with my own iconography, not necessarily offering a linear narrative as much as an idiosyncratic assembly.
