These recent works on paper explore the interface between murals in Philadelphia that feature idealized, dramatized, and distorted landscapes and the actual landscapes that they inhabit.

The subjects of my paintings and drawings are places I know well and remember often. Pulling elements from photographs, memory, and direct observation, I create a version of each landscape that is, often, romanticized and inaccurate. It is the departures from the source—the wavering line, cleaned-up yard, and skewed perspective—that tell the most interesting stories.
