Images and words are miraculous bits of the world that point to other, faraway bits. My work is driven by a fascination with this magical interaction. My paintings and drawings play with point of view, language, illusion, and flatness to complicate and clarify the thresholds of content and form, depth, and surface. Recently, I’ve been making paintings and drawings that take literally the idea that a picture is a statement. These works pose the questions: If a picture is a statement, can this statement be true or false? Can it be a promise? Can it be a lie?
