Colin Marx
I use the word “portraitist” reluctantly. I see myself as more of an action painter who is a people person, one seduced by painting materials, promiscuous with painting influences, and head over heels for unsettling alterations to heads. In my work, I use experimental painting processes to reimagine the Other, opening up new possibilities for empathetic sensation. These range from feelings of hilarity to absolute existential alienation.
