I make images that are authentic, contemporary, psychologically resonant, and emotionally complex. I am interested in celebrity culture, professional sports, and world politics. Using contemporary events and stories as sources keeps me looking forward. I have been using images from the 24-hour news cycle as starting points for my Mob Scenes paintings and am drawn to the excitement and inherent danger of large groups. These paintings came from watching the news with my wife before work and seeing the similarities between crowds outside the morning show studios, people attending sporting or concert events, and protesters marching for change.
